Native instruments maschine mk3 review8/23/2023 ![]() I think Ableton Push 2 has the best workflow out of all three of those and it has far more support then Reaper does. Its worth considering though you'd have to jump off of Reaper (honestly, I'd recommend just doing that anyways, I think ableton is much better □). Whats kind of killed Maschine for me as well is I use Ableton and Ableton Push 2 with Ableton Suite is just a much better platform, and cheaper than buying Maschine with Komplete. ![]() I think Maschine has a better workflow but ultimately they are practically the same. Its pretty much the same device but its got a rechargeable battery so you can take it on the go without requiring a computer. If you're looking for a standalone piece of kit Maschine biggest rival is the MPC Live. All the stuff made by their sister company AiR blows the effects out of the water on Maschine. ![]() MPC on the other hand updated their software to include much better effects. If you want better effects with Maschine you have to buy them, I doubt NI will ever update the software to compete with the effects that they sell on their site. The biggest problem with Maschine however is its effects just sound bad and Native Instruments is far more focused on selling memberships to its platform as well as getting people to buy into their Komplete collections, which I ultimately succumbed to. I still think the Mk3 is a good buy especially if you're planning on using it with a DAW. But within the last two years alone there has been more substantial updates from Akai for the MPC line then I have seen from Native Instruments and Maschine in the 7 years I've owned one. When I first was going to buy into Maschine I had two options to choose from: Maschine Studio or MPC Ren and ultimately I went with the Maschine because at the time the Akai MPC software wasn't as good in comparison. I am also an Ableton user and have been for almost a decade. I've used quite a bit and Maschine was one of the first things I bought (got the Maschine Studio when it first came out). I have quite a bit of gear: synthesizers, samplers, grooveboxes, midi controllers. It’s real easy to pine after a feature, but the work that goes into actually engineering it is not insignificant. To go from the current implementation of the arranger view to a flexible, and traditional linear format, the software will require a near complete rewrite. There are multiple reqs out for software engineers, which very possibly could be assisting in the development of a new maschine software. Sure, they’ve had layoffs, but quite frankly that doesn’t have any proven causation to lack of new software being developed. The hardware update from mk2 to Mk3 was an immense improvement, with dedicated buttons for pad modes, improved on-unit visualization, and improved haptics in general.Īlthough many people have become accustomed to using maschine from a host daw, they are clearly aware of the community’s wants and have new leadership giving new direction. We just got a new version of traktor to catch up to the market, they delivered on massive x (albeit a bit shaky at first release, but subsequent updates have been satisfactory). Yes, but now it’s actually the hottest item for them to update.
